Purple for Cody

My son had a great friend who past on just a month ago, we do miss him dearly.

While working on new color combinations, I came across several great purples.

Then I remembered that His favourite colour was purple.

This special flower brooch is for His Mom, I can't do anything to comfort her, but I can let her know that we miss him too...

For Cody.  You are still here in our hearts and memories.

Snow... snow everywhere!

And it's Palm Sunday!  Here we all are, hoping for early Spring, while still shoveling those driveways (at least where I am).  My remedy for the prolonged winter blahs are the Pussy Willows on my table and the colourful fabric petals ready to bloom into a new creation.

How about this colour combination?

I actually like the way the black adds to the beauty of this design.  Somehow it becomes subdued, soft, fresh and... elegant.

This one is just a touch smaller than others.  Love the overall feel of the combination of fabrics. May keep this one for a special friend.

Now we're talking!

This beauty was created to specifically fit a beautiful crystal and pearl brooch I found in my stash.

I wanted to choose fabrics that would speak to the warm sparkly hues of the brooch I was working with.  Soft Sea foam, sparkly browns and creams.  I think it works fine.  I really like it.
You be the judge:

What do you think?  I would wear this with a stylish black dress.  It's elegant enough to kick it up a notch.

New Chalange

A Friend of mine has asked me to design a sash that will be worn with one of the wedding dresses her daughter will wear on her special day.

The challenge was to make the main flower large enough to accommodate a special crystal and pearl pin from my selection, that she liked so much.  The pin itself is 2" in diameter so the flower itself had to be substantially bigger.

She also liked the feel of soft, shimmering chocolate brown that would go nicely with the slightly off-white dress.

Here is what I came up with.

The sash itself will be a slightly lighter satin ribbon, I will be posting more pictures once it's ready.

All the flower brooches and sashes are available at my Etsy store.

Spring is here... at least that's what we've been told.

Hoping for the Spring to arrive, I've looked through my fabric stash and decided to start the Pretty Spring Collection, just in time for the Prom Season and for Mother's Day.

Here is what I came up with.

One More, I will just keep them coming!

Here we go again.  Another design I worked on recently:

My creativity surprises me... I never in my life loved my own projects this much.  What can I tell you... I love making them, I love looking at them, I love wearing them.  As always they are available at  my Etsy Store and all proceeds generated by the sales go towards the training cost of our Senior Dance Team.

Deep, Sparkley Navy

Here is another design that I came up with. Those are so much fun to make, I can't believe I haven't thought about this sooner.  Love them more than expected.

Experimenting with different types of fabrics, different colour combinations and quite a few different styles of "bling" for the centres.  This is so much fun!

As always, those beauties are available at my Etsy Store and all proceeds go towards the training cost of the Polish National Silver Medalists.

Elegant Fabrc Collection... now what?

After years of making those flashy (or not) skating costumes, I found myself with a huge collection of left over scraps that I could not part with.  Since I can't just sit and do nothing... even when watching a movie I needed to do something.  So here is another fabric flower brooch that I created:

This beauty is handcrafted and one of a kind, available along with many other styles at the www.PetalsandSparkle.ca, as always all proceeds go to cover the training expenses of our talented Senior Ice Dance Team.

What will I do with all that fabric?

Since I no longer needed to make skating costumes for my son, as his attire was now created by a very talented lady in Europe, I had to say good bye my sewing room.  At least for the time being or until I re-discovered my passion and creativity once again.

I was faced with a task of re-organizing my sewing room and it was time to face the Rubbermaid Boxes...

You know the kind, huge, stackable and... filled with left-over fabrics to the brim.  We sewers all have them. My collection of boxes was quite impressive, I have a tendency to keep certain thing, simply because I had no heart to throw them out.  They are too pretty.

Here is what I came up with:

What do you think?  Creating those beautiful one-of-a-kind flowers has become my favourite evening activity.  I never expected to be so excited when each one is finished, as they truly are unique and beautiful.  I must admit... I'm not the only one that loves them.  They are sold at my Etsy Store here, all proceeds go towards the training expenses of out Senior Skating Team.
